The Alfa Romeo 4C has been selected as this year's safety car for the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC).
Last week we found out the BMW M4 will be the MotoGP safety car
for the 2014 season and now Alfa Romeo has announced the 4C will be
fulfilling the same duties in WTCC. Its first appearance will be in the
April 12-13 weekend for the first round of the season at Moulay El
Hassan Circuit of Marrakech in Morocco.
One of the reasons why the 4C was chosen as this year's WTCC safety
car is related to the "Most Beautiful Car of 2013" title obtained at the
29th International Automobile Festival of Paris. The mid-engined,
rear-wheel drive lightweight coupe is described by Alfa Romeo as being a
"supercar" although a 4-cylinder 1.75-liter turbocharged engine with
240 HP (177 kW) & 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) isn't really supercar
territory.
Nevertheless, the 4C is one of the prettiest cars in its segment
(especially if they do something about those headlights) and will soon
receive a Spider cousin which is currently being previewed in Geneva by a
concept (that doesn't have bug-eyed headlights).
